Methods Of Prolonging The Service Life Of Abrasive Cloth Rolls

The production process of emery cloth roll has strict requirements on base material, abrasive, binder and sand planting density. The premature end of life of abrasive cloth rolls is often caused by improper use. How to extend the service life of abrasive cloth rolls?

1. Plastic cover:

Adhesive coverage occurs when a layer of metallic material coats an abrasive cutting edge. At this point, the surface of the abrasive cloth roll becomes bright and the hand feels very slippery. Bonding occurs mainly in high-strength metallic materials, especially in hard materials. Insufficient grinding pressure is the main cause of lid sticking. For materials with high hardness, insufficient pressure makes it difficult for the abrasive to penetrate into the workpiece, making it difficult to break and self-grind. A softer contact wheel or platen, even with a high enough grinding pressure, will only result in severe slump and abrasive particles that are difficult to press into the workpiece. The high-speed operation of the abrasive cloth roll makes the abrasive time in the grinding area insufficient, the cutting depth of the workpiece becomes thinner, and the heat is heavy. The reasons for sticking caps are more comprehensive, and the solutions are also more comprehensive. That is to say, a suitable contact wheel or platen, sufficient high grinding pressure and a low-speed abrasive cloth roll are the fundamental way to solve this problem. Of course, it is also necessary to choose an abrasive with good self-sharpening.

2. Direct grinding:

During the grinding process, although all the abrasive is still present, the sharpness is poor. This is due to wear that causes the sharpening edge to become dull. This phenomenon is called dull grinding. Normal grinding dullness is the end of the service life of the abrasive cloth roll. Obviously, the "bluntness" we are referring to here is caused by the improper selection or use of abrasive cloth rolls when the abrasive grains are not exhausted. A softer contact wheel or platen makes it difficult for abrasive grains to cut into the workpiece, resulting in flat edges. Insufficient grinding pressure will also dull the grinding of the abrasive cloth, making the abrasive cloth itself difficult to sharpen. When the workpiece is hard, the selection of the abrasive cloth roll is inappropriate, or the speed of the abrasive cloth roll is high, and it is difficult to cut into the workpiece for rough grinding. The abnormal wear of the abrasive cloth roll seriously affects the service life of the abrasive cloth roll and greatly increases the processing cost, which cannot be ignored.

3. Blockage:

Blockage occurs when the abrasive grain gap quickly covers and fills the chip before the abrasive grain edge is completely blunt, so that the abrasive cloth roll loses its cutting ability. There are many reasons for the blockage, mainly due to improper use, material processing, selection of abrasive cloth rolls, etc., the contact wheel or pressure plate is too soft, making it difficult for abrasive particles to penetrate into the workpiece. The abrasive cloth roll is mainly in the grinding state. Friction heats the temperature of the processing zone, causing "welding" debris to the roll of abrasive cloth and causing clogging. The solution should be hard contact wheel and pressure plate, or tine back contact wheel and pressure plate, small diameter contact wheel, etc. Due to the high speed of the abrasive cloth roll, it is difficult for the abrasive grains to effectively cut into the workpiece. Blockages and burns can also occur. At this time, the speed of the abrasive cloth roll should be reduced. Soft materials (such as aluminum, copper and other non-ferrous metals) can easily cause the surface of the abrasive cloth roll to block. The solution is to use sparse abrasive cloth rolls and coarse-grained abrasive cloth rolls under the condition that the roughness requirements are met. Use grinding aids such as emery cloth rolls with high brittleness and lubricants. The machined surface of easily clogging materials is smooth. For this material, rolls of abrasive cloth that are easily scratched, such as grease, coarse-grained, etc., should be overcoated. The product has good chip evacuation and anti-clogging properties.
