Sandpaper and scouring pads are common tools used for sanding, wiping, and cleaning surfaces on different materials. Although they all have similar functions, there are some differences in terms of usage, scope of application, and effects. Sandpaper is a material made from paper as a base material and coated with an abrasive adhesive. Sandpaper is usually harder and can be used to sand rougher surfaces and remove scratches, bumps, or old paint. Sandpaper has different abrasive grain sizes. You can choose the appropriate abrasive grain thickness according to your needs to achieve different grinding effects. Coarse sandpaper is often used to remove heavy stains and scratches, followed by finer sandpaper for a glossy touch-up. The non-woven hand pads are a soft material made of nylon fiber, which is often used for car body and metal rust removal. Scouring pads, typically brown fused alumina and silicon carbide abrasives, are an excellent choice for industrial professional applications, offering fast cutting speeds and longer service life. The abrasive mineral aluminum oxide makes it sharp, durable, and hard. The flexible mesh conforms well to irregular surfaces, the mesh fibers are reinforced for stiffness, and the non-woven 3-dimensional mesh provides longer life and a consistent finish. Soft and flexible, scouring pads are widely used in abrasive applications in addition to sanding and finishing applications and are suitable for use in the woodworking and metalworking industries, including ferrous alloys.

 

In terms of usage, sandpaper usually requires manual force for grinding, while scouring pads are used for polishing. When using sandpaper, make sure the surface is moist and be careful not to use too much force to avoid damaging the material. This open network of scouring pads has all the great advantages you would expect, it conforms to contoured surfaces and leaves an even surface finish without burning the workpiece. It is designed with increased stiffness to provide durability for heavy-duty sanding.

 

In contrast, sandpaper is often used in industrial fields and is more effective at sanding and repairing materials. Scouring pads can be used to scratch, polish, or modify the surface of wood, metal, and other materials. When using sandpaper, you need to pay attention to the strength and direction of the force to avoid damaging the material.
