What Are The Factors Affecting The Service Life Of Waterproof Sandpaper?

1. Sticky cover:

When a layer of metal material covers the abrasive grain cutting edge, it will stick to the surface. At this time, the surface of the water abrasive paper becomes shiny and feels slippery to the touch. Sticking mainly occurs in metal materials with high strength, especially in hard and tough materials. Insufficient grinding pressure is the main cause of sticking caps. For materials with high hardness, insufficient pressure makes it difficult for the abrasive grains to cut into the workpiece and make it difficult for the abrasive grains to break and sharpen themselves. A softer contact wheel or pressure plate, even if a high enough grinding pressure is applied, will only make it collapse severely, making it difficult for abrasive grains to press into the workpiece. Higher speed makes the time of the abrasive particles in the grinding area insufficient, the depth of cutting into the workpiece becomes thinner, and the heat is severe.

The cause of sticking is comprehensive, and the solution is also comprehensive, that is to say, a suitable contact wheel or pressure plate, high enough grinding pressure, and low speed are the fundamental solutions to the problem. Of course, it is also necessary to choose abrasives with good self-sharpening properties.

2. blunt:

During the grinding process, although all the abrasive grains still exist, the sharpness is already very poor. This is due to the dulling of the abrasive grain cutting edge due to wear, a phenomenon known as blunting. The "bluntness" we refer to here is mainly caused by the improper selection or use of water abrasive paper when the abrasive grains have not been consumed. A softer contact wheel or pressure plate makes it difficult for abrasive grains to cut into the workpiece, resulting in flattened edges. Insufficient grinding pressure can also easily dull the water abrasive paper, and it is difficult for the abrasive to sharpen itself. When the workpiece is hard, the selection is not appropriate, or the speed is high, and it is difficult to cut into the workpiece and become blunt.
