What Are The Differences Between Wet Sandpaper And Dry Sandpaper?

1. What are the differences between wet sandpaper and dry sandpaper?

There are many types of sandpaper, which can be divided into water sandpaper and dry sandpaper according to different usage methods. There are certain differences between these two kinds of sandpaper, and the main differences are reflected in the following aspects:

1). Water sandpaper is made of water-resistant paper or treated water-resistant paper as the substrate, with paint or resin as the binder, and corundum or silicon carbide abrasives firmly adhered to the substrate. Dry sandpaper is made by bonding silicon carbide abrasives to latex with synthetic resin as a binder and coating them with an antistatic coating.

2). The gap between the sand grains of the water-grinding sandpaper is small, and the powder produced by grinding is also small. When used with water, the powder will flow out with the water, and it is usually used with water grinding; Dry sandpaper is dry sandpaper, the gap between the sand grains is relatively large, and the powder produced by grinding is also relatively large; during the grinding process, the powder will fall due to the large gap, so there is no need to be used with water.

3). Water sandpaper grinds slowly but smoothly. The finer the water sandpaper, the slower and smoother the grind; dry sandpaper grinds faster but coarser, and the coarser the dry sandpaper, the faster and thicker it is.

4). Water sandpaper is used to polish relatively high-grade paint, and dry sandpaper is used to polish metal products, putty, and coating.

5). The water sandpaper is finer, and the back is paper; the dry sandpaper is thicker, and the back is cloth.

2. Which is better, water sandpaper or dry sandpaper?

There are many differences between water sandpaper and dry sandpaper, but there is no saying which kind of sandpaper is better, mainly according to the sanding material and job requirements: If you want to grind more smoothly and don't mind the slow grinding speed, it is better to use water sandpaper; if you need to grind more materials and need faster speed, it is more recommended to use dry sanding paper, or sanding with dry sanding paper first, then water sanding with water sanding paper.
